Stress is the number one culprit behind tension, headaches, muscular pain, and general dis-ease. Physically, headaches, pounding heart, indigestion, high blood pressure, allergies, and insomnia can all come from stress; not to mention that it's involved in so many conditions that a few years ago were considered to be purely pathological, including cancer and heart disease.
You know you're overloaded with stress when you find it hard to focus on your work, your family, your friends, and life in general. Inattention can cause you to get into an accident, get a speeding ticket, or miss out on important meetings or social activities. Signs of stress overload include the inability to concentrate, excessive daydreaming or worrying, forgetfulness, and anxiety. Sometimes we just feel overwhelmed by daily tasks and even the smallest of problems loom large.
Massage therapy is one of the best things you can do for yourself in order to relieve stress. Here are a few others:
- By changing a few of your daily habits, you can experience relief from
muscular pain. If your pain comes from a particular area on a regular basis, pay attention to your posture, sleeping, sitting, and working habits.
- Many clients carry heavy computer cases, luggage, or shoulder bags that
aggravate neck and shoulder pain. Carry only what is necessary and use luggage and equipment on wheels.
- Get enough rest. Most people need around eight hours per night.
- Exercise. Do some physical activity at least 30 minutes, three times per week.
- Eat nutritious meals, low in fat, sugar, and salt, and high is whole grains, fruits,
and vegetables.
- Avoid nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol.
