FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MASSAGE
Is it okay for anyone to receive a massage? Most of the time, yes. There are exceptions. If you have a medical condition that you think might be contraindicated for massage, please check with your physician. If you have a very recent illness or injury that you have not recovered from, we'd prefer to have your doctor's permission before touching you. We do not massage anyone who has a communicable disease that's in an active stage, or fever. If you suffer from a skin ailment such as hives, shingles, poison oak, etc. we need for you to be well before you receive a massage. People with uncontrolled high blood pressure and people who have cancer involving their lymphatic system should not receive massage. We have a saying in massage therapy: If you're in control of the condition, massage is okay; if the condition is in control of you, it's not okay.
Do I have to take off all my clothes? You only have to remove what you are comfortable removing. Most people undress down to their underwear. You are fully covered with a drape during the massage. In fact, we insist that you are draped during the massage; it is the law in North and South Carolina that your body remain covered except for whatever body part we are working on at the time. We ask you to respect that law.
What if there are certain parts of my body I don't want massaged? All you need to do is say so. We honor the client's body and rights as an individual.
If I start to feel uncomfortable during the massage, what should I do? Please tell us if you feel ANY discomfort at all, whether it's about the temperature, the amount of pressure we are using, the body part we are working on, or any other reason. We are here to please, and we don't know we're doing something you don't like if you don't tell us.
Is massage sexual in nature? Absolutely not. The therapists at Carolina Swedish Massage strictly abide by the Code of Ethics prohibiting sexual contact with a client. While there are and always will be some unscrupulous people out there hiding their sale of sex under the guise of providing massage, you can rest assured when you call us that our work is therapeutic, not sexual. If you are looking for sex, you are looking in the wrong place.
If you have any other questions about Carolina Swedish Massage or massage therapy in general, please don't hesitate to give us a call.
